What you can track with EntryNest
Anything with an expiry date, a renewal date or a notice period. Six groups cover almost every household: documents, money, home, vehicle, travel and personal. You can name items however you like — the category only decides how EntryNest groups them and what reminder timing it suggests.
Documents
Identity paperwork has the longest lead times of anything you own. Renewals can take weeks, appointments can take longer, and several countries refuse entry when a passport has under six months left.
Finance
Money categories are where reminders pay for themselves. Insurance and annual subscriptions renew silently at a price nobody reviewed, and warranties expire just before things break.
Home, vehicle, travel and personal
Home: leases, mortgage fixes and service contracts all carry notice periods. Missing the window usually means rolling onto a standard rate that costs materially more.
Vehicle: registration, roadworthiness testing, insurance and licence dates run on four separate calendars. Any one of them lapsing can invalidate the others.
Travel: visas, travel authorisations and travel insurance are tied to trips you book months ahead — which is exactly when nobody is thinking about expiry dates.
Personal: professional certifications, memberships and one-off important dates. If it has a date and a consequence, it belongs on the list.
How much warning each one needs
The right lead time is the time the renewal actually takes, plus a buffer. These are the defaults EntryNest suggests; you can change them on any item.
Passport — 6 months, 3 months, 30 days. Driving licence — 90 days, 30 days. Visa or residence permit — 6 months, 90 days, 30 days. Car or home insurance — 30 days, 7 days. Lease or tenancy — 90 days, 60 days. Appliance warranty — 30 days. Annual subscription — 7 days. Free trial — 1 day.
EntryNest is a reminder and document-organising tool. It does not provide legal, immigration, insurance or financial advice, and reminder timings are suggestions rather than statements of what any authority or provider requires.
