Visa documents to carry at the border
Border officers may ask to see the originals (or printed copies) of your visa approval, return flight, accommodation booking, financial statements and travel insurance. Keep one digital set in cloud storage and one printed set in your hand luggage.
International SIM / eSIM
An eSIM activates over Wi-Fi before you land, so you avoid roaming fees and SIM-card hunting at the airport. Airalo, Holafly and Nomad cover most countries; check eSIM compatibility on your phone first (iPhone XS+ and most modern Android).
Currency & money transfer
Carry a multi-currency card (Wise, Revolut, Chime) for low FX fees, plus a backup credit card and ~USD 100 in local cash. Notify your home bank of travel dates. Avoid airport currency exchanges — rates are typically 5–10% worse than city rates.
Flight booking tips
Compare on Google Flights, Skyscanner and Kayak. Book 6–10 weeks ahead for international long-haul. Use refundable or 24-hour cancellation fares if your visa is not yet approved — never book non-refundable tickets before visa confirmation.
Accommodation planning
Consulates often want proof of accommodation. Use Booking.com 'Free Cancellation' filter or get a host invitation letter. Keep the booking active until your visa decision; rebook firmer plans after approval.
