Ireland offers the shortest realistic route from arrival to EU citizenship in the anglophone world — five years of reckonable residence, no language test. The Critical Skills Employment Permit provides immediate family reunification and a pathway to Stamp 4 (indefinite work rights) after two years. How the immigration system works

Employment permits are issued by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE). Immigration status (registration cards / IRP) is administered by the Department of Justice via Immigration Service Delivery (ISD). EU/EEA/Swiss and UK nationals have full free movement. Non-EU workers apply for an employment permit first, then a long-stay 'D' visa (if visa-required), and finally register with ISD after arrival.

How long until Irish citizenship?

Is Ireland in the Schengen Area?

Is the Immigrant Investor Programme (IIP) still open?

No. The IIP closed to new applications in February 2023. Investor migration is now channelled through STEP (start-ups) or general work permit routes.
